Book Tour: Disappear Guest Post By Mary Martinez

Thank you for having me here on Mama Knows Books. My virtual book tour is winding down and I must say I’ve had a blast. Thank you to all of you who have been following me around.

Today, it’s all about book signings. Do you like to go to book signings? Do you like to go to big name authors? Or local authors and find a new author to follow?

I coordinated a conference for my Romance of America Chapter a few years ago, and it ended with a book signing. We had our chapter authors, but we also had two well-known authors, one was Karen Robards. No one came to the signing, other than our conference guests. I apologized to Karen, because we’d promoted it heavily, and she said, “Don’t worry about it. I’ve learned that book signings are what they are. They either work or they don’t and it doesn’t matter about the location.”

Since then, I take signings as they come and I enjoy the experience. I’ve had good ones and I’ve had poor ones. I wouldn’t say they were bad—well except the one where my books didn’t arrive for the signing. I’ve learned not to schedule one until I have book in hand.

One of my best was last year at a local winery, and the poorest was last year at another winery. Why? I don’t know. I promoted both the same. The one that had the best turnout was the hardest to find. And the one where I didn’t sell one book, was on the main street of Calistoga, CA with a lot of foot traffic.

What makes you stop at a book signing? If you saw a signing at a bookshop, or coffee shop, or even a winery would you stop or keep on walking?

Bewitching Tours will be doing something called the Rafflecopter. It keeps track of everyone who follows me on Twitter or ‘like’s my Facebook page, follows my blog, or anyone who subscribes to my newsletter will all have entries for the drawing that will take place at the end of the tour on June 4th. There will be four winners and they will have their choice of a download or print book of any of my books.

Again, thank you for having me here today.
