{Book Tour} Silver Hollow by Jennifer Silverwood

Once Upon a Boring College Day

One uneventfully dull night, a random fit of inspiration took hold of me. In my mind, I saw this dark and endless room and the floor glowed beneath this couple’s feet. I knew this was the end rather than the beginning of their story. Almost as if they’d already fought the final battle and were together this one last time. They were desperately in love, but couldn't physically touch without pain.
I wrote out the short scene and called it "Loss" for lack of a better title, and filed it away to collect virtual dust with my many other, random fits of inspiration.
Later, though I can't remember how much later, I started writing a short story for my twin best friends. It was meant to be a fun surprise, a book about us, initially set in the near future starring slightly altered versions of ourselves.
I played around with some actual events and our personal dreams to write out a “what-if” tale, about a down-on-her-luck authoress, stuck writing the usual supernatural bandwagon. She was stuck in writer's block and dreaming of writing real literature.
I prepared the first few chapters, chalk-filled with our inside jokes. I didn't think it could be a real story though, just something fun to play at. About a month later, I read it out loud to them. Almost a year later, I picked up this story again.
I was still working on The Chosen at the time, a future urban fantasy I’ve currently got on the back burner. So my inside joke at the time, was that my own paranormal thriller would get published and I'd never be allowed to write anything else.
But about that same time the idea hit me. What if the satirical comedy actually turned into reality? In other words, what if Amie's normal life suddenly becomes a legitimate modern day fairy tale? I plugged in the ending of "Loss" and began to formulate a very loose plan.
Instead of outlining the traditional way, I made up a series of written summaries, of character profiles and places. By making this world mysterious to even me, I hope to retain something new in the telling and add a natural progression to the story.
Halfway through the following college semester, I had something of an academic crisis. My roommate, Becca, learned I was a writer instead of a school nerd academic zombie then. To my amazement, my roomie loved Silver Hollow and begged me to write more.
Thus, the scattered drabble became my first full-length novel. Like a lot of things in life, this wasn’t planned. It almost felt like it came together on its own. But I’ve learned in my limited experience, that sometimes, the more spontaneous it feels, the greater the chance for something special. Our dreams don’t always come true like we plan or imagine them to be. But those are always the best, when your life turns into something better than fantasy.

Book Description:

Amie Wentworth writes paranormal romances, not because she is looking for a degree in ectoplasm, but because she’s got bills to pay. Ever since her parents’ car crash, she has been led a reclusive life and trusted books more than people. Not even a letter from her long-lost uncle, begging her to visit, gives Amie incentive for anything other than ire – until she is stabbed in an alley and brought back to life by a mysterious stranger.
After crossing the Atlantic to her father’s homeland, Amie is dragged into the very sort of tale she is used to selling. Silver Hollow is a place of ancient traditions and supernatural dangers, where everything is the opposite of what it seems and few escape sane.
To make matters worse, the man who saved her life keeps turning up and her would-be-murderer is still at large.
But when she comes face to face with the ugly truth, will she too be sucked into her father’s madness? Or will she discover that madness is just another name for honesty?
