It's Monday!

Well this week we took the kids hiking Thursday and Saturday we went to Fort Ontario in Oswego.
View from rampart, looking down on fort.
The kids loved this surprisingly.
But I didn't get much done as far as reading and reviews.

Welcome to It’s Monday! What Are You Reading!

Heat Rises (Nikki Heat #3)by Richard Castle ( Reading for Summer Challenge)
The bizarre murder of a parish priest at a New York bondage club opens Nikki Heat's most thrilling and dangerous case so far, pitting her against New York's most vicious drug lord, an arrogant CIA contractor, and a shadowy death squad out to gun her down. And that is just the tip of an iceberg that leads to a dark conspiracy reaching all the way to the highest level of the NYPD.
But when she gets too close to the truth, Nikki finds herself disgraced, stripped of her badge, and out on her own as a target for killers, with nobody she can trust. Except maybe the one man in her life who's not a cop: reporter Jameson Rook.
In the midst of New York's coldest winter in a hundred years, there's one thing Nikki is determined to prove: Heat Rises.

Gated by
Do the gates keep the unchosen out or the chosen in?

In Mandrodage Meadows, life seems perfect. The members of this isolated suburban community have thrived under Pioneer, the charismatic leader who saved them from their sad, damaged lives. Lyla Hamilton and her parents are original members of the flock. They moved here following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, looking to escape the evil in the world. Now seventeen, Lyla knows certain facts are not to be questioned:

Pioneer is her leader.

Will is her Intended.

The end of the world is near.

Like Noah before him, Pioneer has been told of the imminent destruction of humanity. He says his chosen must arm themselves to fight off the unchosen people, who will surely seek refuge in the compound's underground fortress--the Silo.

Lyla loves her family and friends, but given the choice, she prefers painting to target practice. And lately she'd rather think about a certain boy outside the compound than plan for married life in the Silo with Will. But with the end of days drawing near, she will have to pick up a gun, take a side, and let everyone know where she stands.

  1. I had to stop half way through the second book of soul screamers . I know it probably gets better the more one reads it but I wish the banshee was a known fact for the protagonist but it's like whenever she screamed she didn't know what was happening to her. It was just so frustrating to me like most YA books are. But nevertheless I just got volume 3 in the mail so I plan on continuing someday :) Thanks for visiting and enjoy your books and have a great week!

  2. I wish I had gotten print copies of the Soul Screamer books instead of kindle copie, because I have no idea whats going. It's not the kindles fault it's that the kids keep stealing the thing and I can't read on it. So the book is very stop and start which has really made it hard to get into even though I think it's an interesting concept. Thanks for stopping by Jackie! :)

  3. Interesting books. I have seen the Soul Screamer Series around a lot. Oswego? That is my old stomping ground. I live in the south now, but the area up there is beautiful.

  4. I'd like to start that Richard Castle Nikki Heat series. I've never seen the show. Will I enjoy the books without being familiar with the tv show, or should I do both? Thanks and enjoy your week!

    1. I think you could read them without seeing the show. Although I personally love Castle, and only got the book because of the series. :)
