Armchair BEA- Genre Fiction

Fiction is pretty much all I read, I like the escape factor. When I started this blog I was really into erotica and romance, but since then my tastes have changed. I want more substance from my reading. Also most the stuff I was reading was the same thing over and over. Sure the plots varied, as did the characters, but it was a lot of the same old same old. Since I've gotten older and my kids have gotten old, my tastes have vered more towards actually I read as a kid surpriseingly here's the list. I read adult, new adult, YA, and middle grade.
Horror- I love ghost stories, and I'm obsessed with zombies
Paranormal Romance - I like these but feel the vampires are over done so I will only read certain authors for example Molly Harper
Thrillers/ Suspense- I love a good nail biting edge of your seat story.
Mysteries- I like to figure out whodunit, although lately haven't been to impressed.
I love fairy-tale retellings as well, especially if they are well done. I've read some that were eh.
I will still read a romance or erotic romance if they have a solid plot and catch my interest, but usually they're with aspects of the genres above as well.
So in conclusion I'll read pretty much anything that catches my interest but it has to grab me within the first couple pages or no go. What about you as special genres you love or hate?

  1. I noticed my tastes changed as my daughter got older and I started reading YA so I could talk books with her and her friends. Now that she's not into YA, I'm more particular about which YA books I read. But I still read a bit of everything & I love zombies too!

  2. Zombies rock! I'm a fairytale fan too.

  3. I'm with you on the escape factor. We live non-fiction, so why try to relax with it?!

  4. I love Horror.Joe Hill is one of my favorites really love Horns and 20th Century Ghosts

  5. I have a soft spot for fairy tale retellings as well.
